Glide Stage installation:
1) Remove
“insert-disk” from plain stage plate.
You will not be using it.
2) Cover the
bottom of the Glide disk with a layer of grease, such as Silicone Vacuum Grease
(Dow Corning). The bottom is the side with the ring
cut into it. The little knobs sticking
out of the topside are to help you steer the disk during rotation. Stop greasing about 5 mm from the outside
edge of the disk, and from the edges of the slide cutouts to keep things
neater.
3)
Optionally add a layer of slipperier grease, such as Vaseline.
4) Get microscope objectives out of the way, and carefully lower glide disk onto plain stage, centered over hole. Push down on Glide disk while rotating it and sliding it around until grease layer / friction becomes uniform.
